BIS is the Bureau of Indian Standards, Inc., the National Standards Body of India, for the harmonization of the activities of standardization, labeling, and quality registration for companies. India has notified a variety of electronic and IT products, which must be marked with a BIS Safety sign before importing or selling in the Indian marketplace.
The Bureau of Indian Standards requires any IT product or electronic product to get a BIS Registration Scheme (colloquially known as the BIS-CRS), which is the safety certification required for these products, to obtain the BIS certificate of technical competence. Once the BIS testing committee validates the safety needs of the product, the BIS provides registration.
