You can use a HP printer on Mac by adding it to your printer list.

You must add a printer using the Printers & Scanners settings to your list of printers before you can use it. (Using Printers & Scanners settings is analogous to using the Printing control panel in Windows if you went from using a Windows machine to a Mac.)

Most of the time, when you install a printer, macOS connects to it via Air Print or downloads its software automatically (also called a printer driver).
