Building collapse: Louts attack Lagos officials, injure police

A female mobile police officer attached to the Lagos State Building Control Agency was on Monday injured during an attack by some louts at the scene of the collapsed building at Agboye Estate on Oduntan street in the Ketu area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened while the officials of LASBCA were enforcing the eviction notice issued to the occupants of the collapsed building.

It was learnt that the louts stormed the area to challenge the officials who were carrying out their duties. This later degenerated into a confrontation between them.

The police officers attached to the officials however decided to chase them away. It was in the process that one of the thugs brought out a sharp object and stabbed the female officer identified simply as Shugar on her wrist.

Speaking with our correspondent, a resident, who does not want her name mentioned, said the thugs had expressed their displeasure at the attitude of the LASBCA officials.

The resident said, “The youths said they were not comfortable with the action of some members of the enforcement team that came here today. That was what led to an argument between them. The police officer was stabbed while trying to hold one of them. and the moment they realised what happened, they retreated and left.”

The fair-skinned police officer was sighted by our correspondent in a nearby hospital where she was receiving treatment.

Order was later restored to the community after some elders waded into the matter.
