Natural Hazards Research Scholarship

RMIT University (officially Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, informally RMIT) is an Australian public research university based in Melbourne, Victoria.

Founded in 1887 as the Working Men’s College of Melbourne by Francis Ormond, it initially opened as a private night school offering instruction in art, science and technology in response to the industrial revolution in Australia.

It was made a public university by act of the Parliament of Victoria in 1992 after merging with the Phillip Institute of Technology.

This scholarship is designed for University students already enrolled to pursue a PhD or Masters by research in areas relevant to the NHRA, including natural hazards resilience and disaster risk reduction.

Aim and Benefits of Scholarship

Funding for PhD scholarships is limited to three and a half years from the date of commencement.

For applicants that have already commenced their studies at the time of their application, the available funding will be calculated pro-rata, based on the period of study that has yet to be completed.

Scholarship funds are intended to fund the student stipend.

Use of the funds for any other study-related purpose (for example, to support fieldwork) is at the sole discretion of the Centre.

Scholarship holders will also be able to:

1. Apply for additional funding support to attend a relevant conference, and to participate in events and activities run by the Centre.

2. Participate in professional development activities offered by the Centre, which may include writing skills, media and public speaking training, poster design, and other skills.

3. Apply for short-term placements in Centre partner organizations.

4. Apply for a Natural Hazards Early Career Researcher Development or Industry Fellowship through the Centre, in the final stages of their study.
